You want ceramic plates, that's the most important thing out there. If you are willing to spend the money and invest in a good flat iron, look for the Chi iron. They can be found online on amazon and ebay. It's the only flat iron that actually puts moisturizing molecules back into your hair to prevent as much damage as possible. It's worth the money.
However, if you can't afford it, some other less expensive brands are hot tools, ceramic tools, and helen of troy. Don't buy something at the grocery store or wal-mart. You're just not going to get a quality product. If you're not going to go with the Chi, take a trip to Sally's Beauty Supply. They sell all the above mentioned irons at very reasonable prices. Good Luck!

Go for the Hot Tools model #1188. It is a 1" flat iron with ceramic/tourmaline plates. Without getting too technical, that means that it will straighten your hair quickly and efficiently. It will also cause the least amount of damage. It is a professional iron which means that the cord is longer and it will get substantially hotter than a consumer product (Which is what category the Remington model falls in). It will get about 20-30 degrees hotter than a CHI iron (430* at it's peak.) and has a much more attractive price point!
You can pick one up at any ULTA cosmetics store.

The best straightener you can get is a Chi. They work so good and are usually the kind they use at salons. You can get a small one, but if you get a bigger one, like a 4 inch plate they tend to work better, and faster.

no matter if the flat iron is moist/dry i do not recomend doing so . What I recommend is partly air or blow drying hair placed warmth protection on area hair and flat iron that way .

It depends on if ur hair is thin or thick?! If it's thick like mine then the "Remington Wet to Straight" works really good and it gets the hair really straight.
Good Luck and I hope I helped

Ceramic.
Personally, I love the big plates because it takes less time for my long hair, but whatever floats your boat.
