The previous gentlemen are correct in each of their answers. Some more creative than others. Randy Hoover's answer really gets into the heart of the matter as to the differences. However, there is no IF to it. The 2WD and the 4WD are 2 TOTALLY DIFFERENT TRUCKS! The only thing similar are the bodies that sit on the frames. You would have to have the COMPLETE running gear from the 4WD truck INCLUDING the rear end. 2WD and 4WD trucks use different gear ratios. Mixing the 2 just doesn't cut it. If you wanted to convert 2WD to 4WD, the ONLY way to do it would be to have a wrecked or rusted out 4WD and transfer the body from the 2WD to it. Then you would get into the problems (notice the "S") of having to transfer the 4WD controls, switches, etc from the 4WD body to the 2WD (which is now sitting on the 4WD frame). So if you truely want a 4WD pickup, go trade the 2WD pickup in on the 4WD. You will save $$$$$ and MANY MANY HEADACHES!!!

There is no kit. You would need a complete truck forward of the bed to convert, IF the frame is the same on a 4X2 as it is on a 4X4. You would need to swap over the front axle, springs, possible steering linkages, brake lines, front drive shaft. Then bring over the transfer case assuming it will bolt to the transmission, if not, swap that out too. You may have to swap the rear drive shaft to accommodate the transfer case. You would also need to swap rear springs to raise the vehicle and make it level. And that's just a rough idea of what you actually need to change. Think that's fun? Wait till you try wiring up the transfer case if it's electronic. All this to say you would be money and sanity ahead if you sold what you have and buy a four wheel drive Ranger instead.

I agree that you're going to understand the right truck once you detect it. I stay interior the mountains and my father owned a 2wheel force ranger 4.0 and we under no circumstances had a situation even with the commonly used snow. in case you comprehend what you're doing (which residing in Canada i ought to say you're very familiar with snow) then you actually will be basically wonderful with a 2wheel force. you comprehend the way undesirable the snow is and also you comprehend even if you should throw chains on or no longer. basically have you ever a collection of rims with automobile tires on 'em for the summer time and a collection of rims with mudders for the iciness time. I wouldnt get too stuck up interior the 4x4 theory see you later as you comprehend the thanks to get through the iciness months which include your 4x2 and considering that you formerly personal a 4x2 xlt then you actually are already familiar with the position that truck can and can't take you.

Anything is possible of you've got lots of talent, time and money.
Personally, I'd just sell the 2x4 and buy the 4x4. That makes a lot more sense economically.
So, yes, there is a "kit" -- you buy a "kit" when you buy another truck.
