i bought 2 sara lee frozen pumpkin pies on thursday, my husband put them in the fridge. i didn't realize this until today when i went to take them out to bake them. it says right on the box "keep frozen". i'd hate to throw them away but if they're bad then i will. does anyone know FOR SURE if i should throw them out?

Your issue is with baking time. The pie is not "spoiled" if it's been in the refrigerator. If there are directions for baking a thawed pie, then you are fine. If the directions are only for baking a frozen pie, you can either re-freeze the pie, or reduce the time to bake. You may have compromised the consistancy of your custard, crust or both, but probably not by much. If you have to "wing it" without thawed directions, I'd bake the first one and begin checking it about 1/2 the time stated, expecting it to be done in 2/3 to 3/4 the stated time. Then you will know for the second one.

Good luck.

Actually, when I bake a frozen pie such as a sara lee, I actually keep it out over night and only put in the fridge after I cut into it. My mom always did this with pumpkin pie and never seemed to a problem.

Perfectly good, if you bake and eat them now. Probably not good for Thanksgiving day. I'd buy a backup or two, put them in the freezer, then try baking one of the pies on weds. and see how it comes out. It won't be spoiled, your fridge will see to that, but they may not come out well.

Had same problem-it melted, but as Tina says here, just treat it was homemade-high heat then 350 for 30 min. It looks perfect! PS it is a custard pie (vs fruit) so should be in fridge to store it.

You can bake them and then freeze them. I wouldn't think they would still be good if you wait till Thanksgiving or even the day before to bake them . You should bake them as soon as possible then freeze them, til you are ready for them

There should be a 1-800 # somewhere on the box. Just give it a call, they will be happy to help you.

All fruits are fruit and vegetables. A "vegetable" is a plant, any part of which is employed for food.
