I am writing a book, and there is a Evil Scorcerer in it. But there are Five Good witches that defeat him, i Guess my question is,
What is your opinion on how i should portray the five good witches powers?
and do you think it should be more like Psychic then like what Harry potter does?

Why not have ALL of the witches defeated by the power of GOD through Jesus Christ? How's that for a plot........

First, the idea of evil sorcerors and good witches is typically based of fantasy. Modern Witches and Wiccans don't follow that type of paradigm. That's the reason that we laugh at people who say that Harry Potter leads people to Wicca, as it's a completely different sort of thing.

If you would like to learn about what we do and who we are, I would recommend two or three books.

The first, which is somewhat a modern history is "Drawing Down the Moon" by Margot Adler. It talks alot about the people who have helped shape contemporary paganism.

The second is Starhawks "The Spiral Dance", which has been in print for nearly three decades.

Lastly, would be the Farrar's "The Witches Bible" which gets more specific into what we do and how we celebrate.

Wicca doesn't have the sort of fantastic attacks from wands, and spells that turn people into toads and that sort of thing. It's about working with the laws of nature to effect change in a natural means. By being in tune with the laws of the universe, we can place ourselves in a better position to be where we need to be when something life-changing comes along. By working with the rythms of the land, we can better insure a healthy crop. By sending positive energy, we can help a person recover from an illness, though none can prevent death completely, as that's a function of life itself.

If you would like to get more specific, you can email, but I believe that my idea of what a witch is probably wouldn't meld with the characters in your book.

It depends. You could portray their powers as purely Psychic so that 'bad luck' befalls the Evil Sorcerer, or you could have them using the powers of Invocation and Evocation to summon 'other forces' to assist their will.

If it's modern day then Psychic powers will be more 'believeable' if not then use the latter.

Be sure of what you write though as no 'real witch', and certainly not a 'good' one will tell you in any great detail about this!!

Here's something original: Base the witches powers on the 5 senses (sight, smell, touch, taste, hear); except you take their senses to the most extreme. Make each sense into a "psudo-psychic" ability; along with other basic forms of magic.

lookn2cjc: Worst plot idea ever. Boring, anticlimactic, offensive to real witches, and frankly, you come off as a bit of a dick when you say that. Witches are not anti-god, they just don't believe in your god. Maybe relax some and don't make assumptions.

Look, if you're going to have a book like this, it's probably not going to follow the religious dogma of real witches. >.> Be original, though!

Each should have it's own specialty. Earth,Fire Water,Air,and the underworld (but she's not evil).Make it so they have to struggle a great deal to defeat the warlock. Let's say for instance, the underworld witch tricks him into thinking she's his ally or something.

I think they should be similar to the powers the witches had in The Craft. Only, not using them against eachother. lol

Their powers should be nature based. You know vines and weather and crap like that. Make them hot, like in Charmed! and they should all get naked in a cauldron of chocolate at the end of the book!

Yeah! That would be a bestseller!

Nature based. More psychic.
