Ask a friend to help you divide your hair and clip it for you, and make sure you use plastic clips. Colour thin strands of hair beginning at the crown and all the way down the length of hair. Though it's fun, doing it by yourself I suggest you go to a parlour.

My hair is thick, curly and very frizzy. I always used henna and Garnier ( Burgundy) to colour my hair. Two months ago I used a Garnier multi- lights kit to high- light my hair. I took chunks of hair to high- light it. I still wasn't pleased. I went to a parlour and got a professional to do it.Though it cost me a lot, yet I was happy with the results. I got an even coloured look and it is getting better. Coloured hair needs a lot of attention. You will have to condition it properly.

Don't go in for light colours like blonde, try subtle colours like burgundy, brown and tan.
Also when the colour starts to wear off, you might consider getting a hair cut.
