Have a professional do it the first time, watch carefully every step she takes in the process. Ask questions and then do it yourself the next time. Color is tricky. I do my own but not until I found a hair dresser who would answer my questions. I also have thick hair that has gone from really curly to wavy. I never use a developer over 20 since the higher levels are harsher. I never buy over the counter products. I buy each component separately at the beauty supply store.

How is this religious?!
Still... I think you should clip up the top layer of your hair (yes, I know we dont have a natural top layer, but about 1/2!) and highlight a random section of the lower layer, then put the top section down and highlight it. Otherwise I heard that shower caps with holes can help! (pull the hair through the cap holes, and highlight it, so none gets on the resta your hair!)

Honey, i think u've posted this to a wrong section, but since i have thick and curly hair myself i'll answer it. I'd advise u to have very thin highlights taken (by a professional of course). Good luck :)
