1. Stay aware from people that are sick.
2. Eat a healthy diet (less fast food and soda) and drink water when your thirsty, not coffee, soda, sugary drinks.
3. Take a multivitamin, 500mg vitamin C, and Echinasea 1 tablet (or capsule) every day with breakfast. The Echinasea helps to boost your immune system.
4. Make sure you eat adequate amounts of protein (about 40 to 50 grams per day). Remember there is protein in lots of foods besides meat (fish, beans, dairy products).
5. Stop taking the Echinasea after the season is over (about Feb or so). You should not take it for more than 2 months at a time, otherwise it will cause your immune system to weaken.
6. Wash your hands, wash your hands, wash your hands. Your hands are the main way viruses can get to you.
7. If you do get sick, keep up with keeping your body healthy. The course of the virus should be much shorter and much less severe.

The flu shot is crap. First of all, this years flu strain is different than the strain the flu shot was for last year or the year before that. Every year the flu strain 'changes'. Do you realize that if you have a compromised immune system, like if you're ill, running a temp, have a cold, have liver disease, etc., you can get very very ill from the flu shot. In fact you can get the flu.
WASH YOUR HANDS AND WASH THEM OFTEN. Most people do not think when they are in public places. Handling a shopping cart at the supermarket without washing your hands is a no no. Turning the faucet off in the restroom WITHOUT a paper towel, is a no no. Pulling the bathroom door open without a paper towel is a no no.
You can use Zicam and there's another drug that you can purchase over the counter....oscillia something or other....that helps to ward off the flu.
Handwashing is the big thing. Common sense is the other.
Hope this helps.

After visiting any place in public, WASH YOUR HANDS. Get a flu shot as early as possible. Always wear adequate clothing when going out in public. Stay away, if possible, from young children whom maybe carriers of some sickness and often do not wash their hands properly.

You can fight it all you want, but there is no trusting way to prevent the flu. Either follow the traditional stuff they taught you in preschool or deal.
