An interesting bit of legislation... the KEY is though : "Rangel said his legislation on the draft would also offer the alternative of a couple of years of public service with educational benefits."

That sounds an awful lot like selective "deferments"... who will be ELIGIBLE for this "alternative public service" ?

Alternative Public Service sounds to me like a cute new form of welfare !!

Personally, unless we get involved in a MAJOR land war (watch Mexico, Cuba, and Venzuala) I don't see any reason or logic for a draft... volunteers are better motivated, disciplined, and less trouble.

Served 15 yrs and now too old for draft OR volunteer service.

The American people voted in the YAHOO lefties, now they are planning to reinstate the draft. They don't get into power until January. What's with all this talk? lol

The way i feel is this our prisons are over crowded with people on death rowwell since the have already been sentanced why shouldn't they go. And if we as a nation are being over run with illegals who want to live here we should make them fight to live here like most of our for fathers did.

This will be real interesting. The DOD does not want a draft, so it will be very interesting and yes, I can say that this wouldn't be my fault either.
