I have 2 neutered female pit bulls, one, age 3 (actually a pit bull mix), and one, age 18 months. THey are quite possibly THE MOST wonderful dogs I've ever owned, despite a serious recent problem between the two of them. But, they are AS DIFFERENT as night and day from one another. However, the ONE THING that they BOTH do, is they lick CONSTANTLY!!! They LICK everything! The floors, the walls, me, other people, and, until I recently have had to keep them totally separated from one another, they used to lick each other, too, not to mention themselves of course. I've owned dogs all my life, but NEVER had pit bulls before, and NEVER had dogs who licked like this. I don't mind it - they CONSTANTLY lick my legs, knees, and whatever other parts of me that they can reach at any given moment, except that I DON'T let them lick my face (one of them eats poop). I'm just curious about this. Have others had the same experience? Any explanations?

It also could be a form of OCD but for dogs. Check with the vet...start easy with the diet ideas already mentioned!

I. Have 3 pits all spayed females. It is a form of odd. My dogs I have had since birth (2) the other is the mom. They are all sweet, but total opposites from one another. They bring new meaning to licking. They too lick everything they can get their toung on. Its a nervous tick, a. Form of ocd. For dogs. Pit bulls tend to be more emotionally attached to Their humans then other dogs. So some of them tend to suffer from separation anxiety, ocd, etc. It depends how bad it is, I got one that will soak a pillow within a few min. Not always good when its at night, and you just got up for a drink or to use the bathroom. When you have to avoid the WET. Spot then chances are its bad and they well most likely get doggy valuim or xanax

hi! :) it really is in a good number of cases brought about by both flea hypersensitive reactions, malicious program bites, boredom, or hypersensitive reactions (favor to nutrients). Take him to the vet. no matter if that is hypersensitive reactions they could try what he's allergic to. Then provide Benedryl, soothing shampoo/spray, and conceivable hypersensitive reaction images. ad On- After Benedryl has been used for a lengthy time period now and again it may grow to be a lot less helpful. Which some vets will then placed a canines on steriod pills or images.

I have a 10 yr old Pit mix. She's always had to "taste" everything. I think it's her way of checking things out. She certainly has a good diet and plenty of water, so I don't think it's related to nutrition. I've gotten used to it, but my guests don't like it when she licks their hands, shoes, clothes, whatever...which I totally understand.

I have a pitbul mix who loves to lick anything and everything. I know pits, if raised correctly, can be very friendly and loving. just think of it as they love you a lot.

I have two boxers who do that. They drive me freaking crazy sometimes. My one boxer, Cooper, has allergies real bad which makes him lick his self but he also licks everything in sight. My other boxer, Kane, who does not have allergies only licks himself. Kinda odd. Anyway, I can sympathize with you! I love my boys to death but they sure can drive me crazy!

we had a lab that did that and the vet suggested it could be a nervous habit (which is what it turned out that our situation was, yours may be different) or just a sensory thing...they cant touch things, per se, so that is how they "feel" of it, its texture, taste, whatnot
