the one with dried onions. Maybe, on the heels of bloomin' onions?

Oh, you mean green bean casserole. Green bean salad is something completely different. The casserole has always been popular. Maybe you've just noticed it lately.

It gained popularity in the 50s when "home economists" in the kitchen-labs of big food companies (like Campbell's, etc.) started experimenting with their condensed soups. They were touted as the new wave in convenience cooking. I believe Campbell's invented the recipe as a way to use their Cream of Mushroom soup, and because they advertised it so much -- put the recipe on labels, on advertisements in newspapers and stuff -- soon every household in America was eager to try it!

So no, it has nothing to do with Bloomin' Onions.

The only green bean dish I know of with dried onions and is "popular" is the hot dish with cream of mushroom soup.

So to answer your question--- I have no idea...what's in the salad?

it is an inexpensive food to buy and is easy to prepare and is healthy and tastes good.
