I am 26 weeks pregnant and wondering if any other mothers have taken Fenugreek the day their baby was born and how soon your milk came in after taking it?

Fenugreek is usually used when supply is low. Your milk will not come in until about 3 days after delivery but your colostrum should be plenty for the baby until then. Colostrum is a very high calorie, high nurtient, high antibody pre-milk that is GREAT for your baby. As long as he/she is having enough wet/dirty diapers in the beginning, that's all that really matters. Eventually when your milk comes in fully the baby will gain more weight and eat a lot more. Good luck and always ask your doctor before you take any medication/herbal substance.

I took fenugreek, all it did was make me smell like curry. It did nothing for my milk supply, but herbal supplements work very differently for different people and I know some swear by it. I didn't gain any weight as a result of taking it either though.

Your milk will come in on its own after several days. Fenugreek is to increase your supply if it should go down at all. 1 warning about fenugreek. It will make your sweat and urine smell like maple syrup..

I only took it when I wasnt making enough milk, about 7 months. I would suggest waiting until you know if you need it or not, you dont want to be dependent on something you might not need. Give your body a chance to do it on its own. With my son it took 4 days for my milk to come in. With my twins I had it in within 12 hours, much to the shock of the lactation consulatant at the hospital she said you didnt have milk pumped out honey its just a bit of colustrum. But then I showed her the 8 ounces of white creamy milk and she was in agreement it was milk

Visit that site, it shows how much a newborn actually needs. Don't worry about it, you will do fine.

The second time It came in on day 3.

Commit to it for 6 weeks.. thats the hard part. After that its all easy till 1 year! Good Luck & Congrats.

You should only take fenugreek when your supply is getting low, I think it is bad to take it the day your child is born, it could affect you colostrum.

I only took it when my supply needed a little boost. Makes you smell like maple syrup if I can remember correctly .

Ask a lactation specialist.

It's very common and safe. I did not do it and dont know the specifics on it...but give it a try. Congrats on your upcoming baby.
