Hey Clueless, since you are looking for answers you should have stayed on the phone with the vet. Why would you look for answers from people on line that for all you know could just be pulling answers out of the air and giving them to you. Everyone thinks they are experts when it comes to dogs but you should leave important questions to the vet.By the way after pups are born it is customary to take the dog to the vet for a post-whelp check up and most times they will give them an injection to clear the new mother out. Had you of waited on the phone the vet would have told you this.
EDIT: I was just looking through your questions and I found that two months ago(which is how long it takes for a dog to whelp) you were asking about your nine month old puppy in heat.
YOU BRED A NINE MONTH OLD PUPPY!?!?!?
Are you just that heart up for money that you would risk the poor female dog's life just to make a buck. You could have prevented it all you had to do was spay and neuter your dogs or at the very least keep them separated. What you did was just ignorant and someone should take those dogs away from you.
Check under her questions asked.

Three is probally all she will have that is the usual. Is there bright red bleeding or Greenishish black fluid coming from her vagina, then to worry, and panic.???Call a vet.If not try and watch for a blob of dark reddish brown "Placenta" that is usually the end of the dilivery. You can gently examine her tummy and feel for other puppies but I dobt if thier is anymore babies.Be calm she picks up on anxiety. She will have a slight pinkish red discharge. If you are still worried in the morning take them to vet. Some people are so jealous they won't give anyone advice, sorry for all those selfish breeders out there! Good luck and god bless!

She might just be panting from the stress of having 3 puppies.
I agree with Raysin; if you can't wait on hold for 5 minutes to get professional help for your dog, what kind og dog owner are you? Gee, I wait on hold for 10+ minutes waiting to speak to a customer service rep. to fix my phone!!! I also agree that you SHOULD NOT have bred your Chihuahua. You obviously have NO CLUE what to do in an emergency. Any responsible pet owner would either call the vet AND WAIT ON HOLD or go to the vet and ask what is wrong.
If you had the ultra-sound done at the right time, it would be accurate with showing exactly how many pups she will have. If you done it too early, it might not have been accurate. She might have another puppy stuck in her birth canal.
This requires an emergency c-section which can cost a lot of money.

my boxer had puppies about 3 1/2 mos ago and she panted and squirmed like crazy while she was in labor. she also had 3 puppies. when the last was out, she calmed down and rested. if she is still panting it is possible she is stil laboring trying to drop another pup or pass the last of the afterbirth. if she IS stil laboring, i wouldnt let it go on forever. sometimes it does take a llittle longer, depending where in the womb the puppy was and how it is turned. i agree with the answerer above, if it appears she is really straining, u might want to take her to your vet or call and see if they do housecalls--a housecall might be pricey but would be worth not having to move them whch mightnot be good.

I agree...call another animal hospital...or just bring the mom and pups to the nearest animal hospital if you suspect something is wrong. You'd be panting too if you were in labor.
Chihuahuas are notorious for complicated pregnancies...often needing C-Sections and even dying.
Doesn't she have a vet that you've been bringing her to for pre-natal care? If so, you should be calling her vet and having him/her paged for the emergency...at least to explain the situation and get any questions answered.
In summary...get a professional on the phone.

Take her and her litter to the animal hospital if you're worried. How do you expect strangers to help? Panting sounds like labor, but if the puppies were already born, it sounds unusual. Call the hospital back and be patient.
*Update* Sorry you didn't like what I had to say, but that's what you get when you ask people who don't have any interest in protecting your precious feelings and are simply concerned about the health of the animals. Here's what I wanted to say:
Why on earth are you bringing more puppies onto the earth? Have you not heard over and over that having your animal spayed/neutered is part of being a RESPONSIBLE owner? If you don't know what you're doing, and you can't wait on the phone 5 minutes for professional help, what kind of owner are you really? You could lose your pet if you don't get the appropriate care. Sorry you don't like the reality of things, but that's your hang up not mine. Take your dog - now dogs - to the vet. Clearly you're not a breeder.

A dog will be loyal to whoever it wants to be sometimes. If you don't spoil this dog & turn it into a pampered animal, but treat it like a dog, a fun loving, lovable companion, loyalty being split up wouldn't be an issue.

dogs pant when they are in labor and sometimes after the birth if you had a child you would understand why. if you are really worried or think their is something wrong take her to the animal hospital. but if you had her x-rayed and they said she was fine then let nature take it's course just try to keep her as comfortable as possible
