Requesting time off Question?

I work in a restaurant as a cashier/host and I put in a request for time off for Thanksgiving (we're closed TG day) in the beginning of the month. On Nov. 7thth he denied my request. My mom's mad because she already paid for a trip to Canada and she says it's against the law for employers to not grant you time off if you request it weeks in advanced. She says I should quit or get someone to cover my shift. But last time I did that I found another coworker who was willing, but my manager said no to that b/c then the guy would've been working too many hours that day and because he said he needed me there too. But this new girl who started last week got someone to cover for her this Saturday and that was all cool. I've been there eight months. So what do you

If I call in sick for Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, and if they susepct I'm lying and really on vacation, can they fire me for that? They can suspect all they want, but if they don't have proof and can't legally fire me, thenimok

A boss can deny your request, more then likely your request was lower on the list, other people had their requests in before you did. Yes, if you call in sick and you leave then yes they can fire you. There's not much you can do about it.

i am not sure if it is legal or not if employers can deny time off if requested in a timely fashion, but locate documented rules for time off @ your job. also you can not worry about what is going on with what happened or did not happen with others. if that is so important that someone else was able to do what you want to do; by getting your/their shift covered. the other probably did not have as many hours as the person that you asked to cover your shift. get it? if mother told you to quit; that's not a good message to send to a child anybody for that matter and also she said to quit then i am going to assume she will help you out financailly until you find another. the boss may not want to use someone else in your place because he/she knows that you are a good worker. don't lie show your boss that you have an already paid trip.

call in sick and then go to a dr's office or somthn and get a dr's note, LEGALLY they can't fire u for that. But yes he really shouldn'tve denied it, considering it's a request u had put in, he probaly wasn't responsible enought to plan it then, and at the last min realized it was too late, so he wanted to play it off, or he's just a ddickhead
