I am auditioning for the musical, "My Fair Lady," and I need help with Cockney and traditional British, as that would be spoken by educators and the well educated.
I visited England two years ago(I loved it, BTW), but I can't quite achieve the accent anymore. I've become Americanized again...
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thank you!

Learning to speak correctly, and pronounce words as they should be pronounced, overnight, is a bit of a tall order.

For more formal English log onto the BBC World Service radio - www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice and listen carefully - especially to the announcers.

For "cockney" try any Guy Ritchie movie.

Good luck

Well first of all you need to know which British accent you want to learn... like the accent from london is different from the one in manchester! There are many videos on youtube that may help you to get the "British" accent! You should also say some British expressions. Well to learn the "British" accent quickly you have to practice it daily :)

British accent is addicting after listening to it. Watch PBS for British programming . Do you get BBC America? Rent Movies like Emma, Pride and Prejudice (not the new version the one with Colin Firth) Rent Oliver for cockney. If you have never seen the British sit com Absolutely Fabulous see if you can get it at your Library it is hysterical. For really formal English accent rent Lion in Winter. Break a Leg!!

well you could always go back to england and spend a couple of days there...hopefully the accent would rub off on you. You could also try and listen to tapes with british accents or get an accent coach. i hope this helped you.
