Probably not. Call your court house and explain it. They may tell you to come in and get it resolved. I'm sure if you do nothing, some poor guy with that plate will get a warrant issued. If the officer didn't run your plate, they wouldn't know there was a mix up and would have no way of knowing it should have been your plate.

If the ticket has the wrong tag number on it, you have two choices. One is to be a good honest person and pay the ticket anyway. Two is to ignore it and take a chance that they never figure it out (the odds are highly in your favor unless they also listed the VIN number of the vehicle on the ticket, which is very very rare).

When a ticket is not paid in time allowed, a notice is sent to the registered owner of the the vehicle (based on the tag) that the fine and any penalty are due. Seeing as the tag number is wrong, this notice will go to the person with the tag they listed, if the tag is even a valid tag. They would then have to contest the ticket, based on an error.

If it was me, I would not pay. I would do nothing. Unless you get a notice in the mail, you got away with it!

I think they'd be hard-pressed to find you if they've got the wrong license plate number.

However, if you take it to the judge, 9 times out of 10 the judge will simply correct the license plate entry on the ticket and then demand that you pay it. Judges and cops are paid by the same payroll you know.

Were you parked wrongfully, or did someone just put their ticket on your vehicle. If it was supposed to be yours, just pay it. If someone else put it there, I'd mail it in with a note saying it was put on your car, but isn't your plate.

It can be dismissed if the constable did not put his or her name on it.
