depending on how long you have been gone, you are already in trouble... and the correct term is U.A. You are already flagged and they will wait for you to come to them... they will not come looking for you unless you make it obvious were you are, then they have to, but it is easier for them to wait on you to mess up and get arrested for desertion, then they will come get you and you will be eligible for the full penalty of the UCMJ, which includes imprisonment with only bread and water rations and death... your best bet is to turn yourself in and talk to them about your issues, tell them you don't want to go and will not go. They can not force you to go back to Iraq... honesty with them is the best best bet for you....

First, the term is AWOL (Away WithOut Leave)
Secondly, you should return to your unit for a myriad of reasons.
One, you are already subject to UCMJ action and can be given an Article 15 for being AWOL.
Two, if you are gone for more than 60 days you can be defined as a Deserter. The penalty for desertion during war time can be up to execution. That's no joke.

Being a former Marine and knowing as well as serving with quite a few brothers whom have gone what u call "AWOL" which is actually categorized as "U.A." (unauthorized abscence")No you will not be hunted down like some felonious dog.But you will be placed upon a Federal list of "jumpers".So if youare caught speeding on the highway and u r pulled over you will be arrested and at the mercy of the federal government.Your best option would be to turn yourself in to your "Guard Station" and simply refuse to train or deploy. The worst that will happen is you will receive a "dishonoable" or "Other han honorable" discharge.

You WILL be found and you WILL be sent to a Federal prison!!!!!
I am a retired Marine with the DOMJ...You cannot hide...period!!
BTW...That's AWOL...Away Without Leave.
Your best bet is to turn yourself in and maybe you will only be dishonorably discharged with a 5 year probated sentence!
Oh, I forgot to tell you that you are a disgrace to America. To volunteer and neglect your duty makes me want to puke!
Do not underestimate the the Dept. Of Military Justice, they are just like Dirty Harry, they won't give up until you are found!
I, personally can find you, and when I do, I will turn you over to the proper authorities!
Make the best of your freedom coward scum!
BTW...This is wartime and will probably be relegated as DESERTION, which can carry the DEATH PENALTY!!!

you should know the repercussions of goin AWOL since you were supposedly active already. I hope they find you and when they do, you won't even be able to get hired at McDonalds. Or maybe when they find you , your unit will still be overseas and they send you over there to do your 12-18 mths and then do your paperwork.

The correct term for Army & National Guard is AWOL.
UA is the Marine Corps equivalent.
That being said, in years past they may not have looked too hard for you but that has changed!!!!
Why did you enlist in the Guard knowing that you could have to go back?

You are only going to dig yourself in deeper. Unless you are headed to Canada permanently I suggest you contact a good attorney, or call the closest JAG office for advice.
Iraq sucks, but I think you should do the right thing. I have been here for 16 months now and can't wait to get home.

You did your time the first time,, congrats and welcome home. But why did you reenlist in the guard???? You could have reclassed or went to some sham unit.
Like some threads mentioned earlier, turn yourself in. Aint no shame for not wanting to go back. you did your part, your time, now turn yourself in.
besides after this mess is over the future president will probably pardon all the deserters anyway. just like they did after vietnam.

Don't worry about it. No one's going to look for you too hard. Just stay gone. And stay off the internet, because advertising yourself is stupid. If you make it obvious that you're out there then tehy will have to come and get you.
We don't want you. If you have to be dragged, kicking and screaming from your momma's skirts to do your duty, to retain your honor, to keep your word, you are less than dirt beneath my feet and you can't be trusted to keep teh back or the faith of real soldiers.
Disappear. Stay gone.

once you have been gone for 30 days, it becomes a felony. you get pulled over for running a stop sign, you will come up on the sytem as flagged, and be arrested and held until your unit decides to come get you.
