the carbonation isn't what dehydrates you, it's a combination of sugar in the soda, or caffeine (if it's caffeinated). Caffeine is the worst offender. You should always drink 6-8, 8 oz. glasses of water each day. I've been told for each caffeinated drink (soda, coffee, etc.) you drink, you should ADD that amount of water, in addition to the 6-8 glasses.

The added salts and minerals in soda dehydrates you. When soda goes flat it just means that the decarbonized(i dont know if that is a real word). All the salts minerals and sugars are still in it. Soda doesn't dehydrate you neccesarily it is just ineffective in hydrating you.

sugar helps dehydrate but the fluid helps hydrate

soda does not hydrate. water is best for hydration. You can use sports drink but there tends to be too much sugar in them
