A cold is a virus, so antibiotics do not work. There are so many varieties of this virus that a vaccine is impossible. Even the flu vaccine only protects against the more common flu virus. The "cure" is to strengthen our own body so that the antibodies we possess will destroy the virus. Cold medicines are only good in that they will relieve symptms and discomfort, so the the body can focus on geting rid of the virus. That also means a good healthy balanced diet with lots of vitamins and anti-oxidants. Drinking plenty of water too and add lemon for its medicinal properties and honey for its energy and vitamin A. I swear by that with 'real' tea made with loose tea, either black or green. I also heard about chicken soup and this worth a try, especially if it contains vegetables and herbs as well. I hear about herbal medicines, although I do not know enough about them. Another thing that worked for me was to take a sauna and really sweat it out and then drink plenty of water and all the above. Sunshine if available helps too.

1. Squeeze fresh lemon juice or lime juice into your water and drink 8 glasses a day.
2. Take vitamin C. I have been taking vitamin C tablets and I haven't been sick since February....it really works and it's cheap! 3 grams a day while your sick (spread out throughout the day though) and 2 grams when your not, but whatever your choice.
3. Think positive and get rest. Stay in your routine. Sleep an extra hour or two if you can squeeze it in.
And when you have thanksgiving dinner try to eat a lot of fruits and vegetables at the table and try not to have that many dairy products, it'll just make whatever you have worse and make your body work harder.
Don't stop taking the vitamin C though, it helps a lot.
Good luck!

You can diminish the symptoms with things like fluid, mild exercise, Vitamin C, zinc, hot lemon drink, Theraflu, various over-the-counter medicines...
But it takes a good week to really get over the cold and being infectious.
