An old hair stylist that I had told me that every time you color your hair, you should wait 3-4 days to wash it, so the color holds longer. Well, I just had my hair colored yesterday afternoon, and it's already starting to get greasy looking, I think she put too much product in. Do I really have to wait 2 more days for the color to last longer, and look better or is that just a bunch of BS?

When your stylist rinses your hair after color, the color is gone. There is no "setting in" period once the color is off your hair. In my salon, we rinse the color completely out of the hair and use an acidifying conditioner with cool water.

Afterwards, you should just wash your hair when you would regularly. If you wash your hair every day, wash it the next day. If you wash it every two days, then wash it in two days. The important thing to remember is to use good shampoo and conditioner. You must use a color care shampoo and conditioner if you want to maintain the health and color vibrancy of your hair for the longest possible time. If you use anything other than color specific shampoos and conditioners, especially the harsh products that you buy from the grocery store, your color WILL fade faster. It's always best to use professional products on chemically treated hair.

If your hair feels dirty, by all means wash it! If you are using good products, you have nothing to worry about. Good luck!

I always let mine wait 2 days before washing because I am convinced that it lets the color set in the hair. I think you will be ok to wash it in cold water. Cold water actually helps presverve your color better than hot water. Also when you wash, you could just scrub your scalp and only let the shampoo sort of rinse down the rest of your hair.

I've heard that that's true. I usually just wait like 2 days, and my hair looks fine. Also, even if it does fade a little, I'm sure you'd rather have that then people thinking you're greasy and don't wash your hair.

After coloring you dont have to wait to wash your hair. Only after perming you should wait 2 days. The hairdresser washes it out with shampoo after its done processing. My only suggestion is to rinse with cold water every time you wash when you have colored hair. This will help close the cuticle of the hair which will help keep color from fading. I dont color mine but i rinse with cold water cause it makes my hair extra shiny

I always end up washing my hair the next day, they always put so much product in it, it ends up looking so greasy. My color has never come out, so I think it might be B.S. I think differnt hairstylists tell you differnt things to, one girl I went to just said one day.

you only have to wait 24 hours before washing it because if you don't wash it the greasy look will stick on your hair.

You should definitely wait to wash them, because that fact is true, and when you wash them, your hair will be normal and not so greasy.

You ca wash it, a little bit of color will drain out. Just make sure to use a shampoo and conditioner for color treated hair. I recommend Goldwell
