Did the guy ask you to go with him or are you all just mutual friends. If the guy asked YOU to go and some how the rest are just going with then yes its a date. If you or the guy did not ask the other then I wouldn't really call it a date.

I was invited to the movies with my new friends, I go to school the next day and people said it was a date if you go to the movies with someone- I used to go with my friends all the time and I when moved, this was not natural.
Did he ask you?
Just be straightforward. Is this a date?
Odviously he does not hate you.

I am pretty sure it is a date,if you dont think it is a date,i would say just sit down with your friend and tell her your feelings about this boy,if she doesnt care or doesnt understnad,maybe the boy likes you and is trying to get closer to you by going out with your friend,its happend to me before,so if your friend doesnt understnad go and talk to the boy,dont be shy,good luck

Did he ask you or did you ask him? Was he casual about it, or was he nervous? Take it easy. Enjoy yourself and watch for clues. Will he reach to hold your hand, will he put his hand on your back to lead you in, will he put his arm around you in the movie, will he pay for everything? If It's dutch, then he's just a friend.....
