Where do I find the rules and regulations that govern county jails?

My son has been in a county jail in Virginia for almost a year, has been sentenced, and is waiting to be sent to a prison. He was put on an antidepressant medication by the doctor while in jail and has not received this medication for 3 weeks. Also, recently he has contracted something that produces sores,like boils, that bleed and are very painful. When the first one appeared he was taken to the doctor and given medication that did not seem to work. He asked for something for the pain and received nothing. He was not told what this sore was and now has contracted 2 more. I am especially worried because there have been other inmates that have had these sores and they were sent back to the county that they came from. There was also an inmate in population that had AIDS and had these sore that burst and squirted blood everywhere. My son is not getting the proper medical attention that he needs and I am very concerned. I am contacting the state health department tomorrow.

Contacting the health department may be the best thing to do. I hope you are successful in bringing attention to the conditions you've observed. It would also seem that this question belongs in a category other than Skin Conditions, more like Government or Law.

All state prison system has a group of people to help inmates and families.....Its called Helping hands or something like that (usually retired nuns)....they help with legal and medical issues contact that system and find out what support groups are associated with that prison.....Good Luck

Also you can contact a lawyer to insure that the system is giving you son the proper medical attention......I made such a stink with my attorney....(my son was in county) they took him to his regular doctor....in a van in hand cuffs
