Julie G--Greetings:

Big question in such general form. Many causes of stress. Usually its less what's happening in our lives that the way we VIEW what's happening in our lives--that causes stress.

And stress involves the release of powerful hormones such as cortisol and epinephrine. This is part of what's called the fight or flight response, a wired in part of our mindbody that puts us on emergency alert in the face of danger. So we can fight or flee.

Troubl is that our mind can trigger this response and hormones can come into our body and seep into our blood and tissue and then we feel wired a lot and anxious.

So 2 things: 1) check out if you tend to VIEW life events in stressful terms. If so then get some help changing these conditioned patterns of perception and 2) learn how to turn of fight or fight response to stress hormones will stop flowing into your body and so you can flush out hormones from your system.

The mind and body are an interdependent unit and so what you think and feel affects every cell in your body.

Good luck...dr jm

Different things work for different people I suppose. It is recommended to take plenty of exercise if stressed. it will allow you to vent any anger or negative energy in a healthy and creative way. Relaxing with music or a book or in a bath can help some people. Personally, ironing helps me. The movement of the iron on clothes gets the bad energy out of me. I think it is generally important to ensure your life is balanced between work, family, home and recreation and that one of them isn't demanding too much of you. A nutritious diet also helps.

Doctors would say-remove yourself from the source of the stress- but if the stress is in the workplace then that is not easy.

I would suggest do something totally different on your time off. A good walk helps me

stop doing what is causing you to stress. tell me what the stress is and i can help you.
you need to value yourself, and do things in your time and stop comparing your self to others and what they do.
