It's a great lens for any of the digital Rebels, or for a 20D/ 30D. On these cameras there will be no vignetting, so there's no need to crop anything. Do NOT use it on a 5D or on a 35mm film camera though.
If you want a super-wide for less, there are plenty of other options. The Canon 10-22mm is the best of the lot and the most expensive. Second comes the Sigma 12-24mm. And then for around $500 there's a Sigma 10-20mm, a Tokina 12-24mm, and a Tamron 11-18mm.
