What's up with the western world thinking today's sexual moral ideas are either correct or existed in the past

All over the world today and everywhere in the past there have been very different sexual practices in a large assortment of ways, depending on the culture people lived in, yet I read condemnation of this one for marrying at 9 or that one having several wives. Monogamy is not a scriptural issue and age of marriage is not mentioned in scripture so why

two becoming one is an obvious reference to the act of sexual union.

why on earth would someone impose their cultural values on someone in another culture.

Actually, the commandment of monogamy was reinstated for the Christians although the Jews had been allowed at times to have more than one wife or concubine.
! Timothy 3; 2 and 12 both state that men taking the lead should be husbands of one wife . That was the way it was in the beginning with Adam and Eve.
As far as culture goes, Christians should not make the rules but stick to their principles, also at the same time not disobeying their local laws. The Mormons had this problem in the late 1800's and were refused statehood for Utah until they abolished that practice.
Of course, people can do what they wish , but if a person wanted to convert to Christianity, then of course they would have to change their life to live as a Christian and obeying Bible standards.

It's mostly ignorance of history, as the first responder said, but also a fear of anything outside one's world view. People who have no imagination are easily brainwashed into thinking their way is the only way and always has been.

I DO draw the line at anyone having sex with a NINE-YEAR-OLD! I just saw a harrowing film called "Human Trafficking", about the global sex-slave trade. It was terrible and it's going on right now, w/hundreds of thousands of women and children abducted and sold as sex slaves, raped repeatedly, tortured and usually killed!
