Last Christmas....My great-grandfather was sitting by me. He slowly reached for my hand and held it for about ten minutes...He looked at me, and I looked at him. I knew it my heart that this was the last Christmas he'd spend with the family on earth. He passed on in February. (My great-grandma had passed away in August) He was old, worn, and weathered, but he still had a gleam in his eye and loved everyone and everything for what they gruly were. I miss him so much, and I love that wonderful memory I have of him. Now both he and my great-grandma are in Heaven, where they are meant to be. May they reside in peace for all of eternity there. God bless you all.

My mom died of cancer in 2003.

In 2002 for Christmas, we didn't know she had cancer. That Christmas was the first and last Christmas that everything was going well for my family.

As far as we knew, everyone was healthy. My sister and I were moving on without lives after all the bad stuff that happened. It was the first Christmas that we spent totally with my mom and stepdad. We had a fantastic dinner, sang songs, opened presents.

Yes, there's more to this story but it would take hours to type it all out. Let's just say that things had been going REALLY bad for my family for years and things were looking up.

That Christmas was peaceful, and fun, and exciting. It was like the Christmas' that I had growing up and those Christmas' were always good. It was the last Christmas that went right.

Since then things have been...... difficult for my entire family. In pretty much every respect. It was like the calm before the storm.

It would have to be one of the last great Christmas's that my parents spent together. This was the year that the Cabbage patch kids became really popular and people had to go on a waiting list to get one. Well, my parents did not know that the other was on the list and they ended up getting two cabbage patch kids, one boy and one girl. Nevertheless, I came down Christmas morning to a sparkling tree with sooo many presents underneath. My little brother and I went to town with opening presents and the last two that I opened was the cabbage patch kids. I was so excited, I screamed and hugged my parents. It was a time that was special because the love that was in the room and the Christmas spirit was still prominent. Celebrating Christmas when you are a child is so much different as a adult.

My best Christmas was last year.

It was a horribly stressful time. The store I worked at was closing and I transferred to a different location in our chain, but I was very unhappy there and missed my friends so much. We were closing on a new house, but things kept getting held up and we had to stay with my in-laws for the month of December. I had to drive an hour and a half each way to get to work, and had to give up nursing my baby because I couldn't take enough breaks to keep pumping and it was too far for my mom-in-law to bring him in for a meal every day as she had been. The stress was mind-boggling.

And yet... I was so glad to have my little baby, and it was the first Christmas since I married my beloved, so it was our first holiday as a *family*. Inconvenient as it was, I was so grateful to be able to stay with my in-laws and they were happy to have us. My older kids dealt with the transitions with grace and good humor and I was so proud of them. And though I wasn't happy at my new store, the people were kind and I was lucky I still had a paycheck coming in.

It was all a matter of perspective. I found more to be thankful for that Christmas than any other I can recall.

I have told this story before, but I will tell it again. It is about forgiveness and putting ourselves aside for the sake of another, which is what Christmas is all about.
I was in the process of a divorce, my now ex was getting re-married to our former babysitter as soon as it was final. I was so angry at them both because he had cheated on me with her, and accepting her as a stepmom to my kids was unthinkable to me.
I had nothing, so my mom and brother moved out from California and we all lived together in a trailer. My mom, pulled me out of my misery and we turned that little trailer into a winter wonderland. I had to share the kids for Christmas. At that time they were 5, 3 and 1 1\2. He was going to have them on Christmas Eve and then bring them over Christmas morning.
On Christmas Eve it started to snow, which it rarely did where we lived in N.C. Not only did it snow...it dumped over 4 feet of snow, which by morning looked like 10. We lived so far off the main road, and with a city that rarely had snow, I knew he would not be able to get the kids to me. We had no phone to even call them. I was hurting so bad. I wanted my babies with me.
As I was sitting on the couch crying, my younger brother, God Bless him, was trying to console me. He looked out the window and started shouting for me to look. When I did, I saw three figures trudging through the snow, each with a bundled kid on thier back and bags of present in front. It was my ex, his soon to be wife, and another Marine. It reminded me of the three wise men bringing their treasures to Jesus.
It was such a loving gesture on their part and my heart softened towards them. The doors opened for forgiveness, which I found they were both desperate for.
Those kids are now 23, 21 and 19. And everything has not always been wonderful, but their dad and stepmom and I made peace with each other and put ourselves aside for the sake of the kids, who had happy lives with two sets of parents who loved them very much.
A Blessed Christmas to all!

True story. Several years ago, we were having an extremely rough time of it. There was no money to pay the bills or put food on the table, let alone provide Christmas gifts for my kids. I was beside myself with worry, and went to sleep on Christmas Eve with a heavy heart.

I was awakened before 6 am to my phone ringing. It was my mother, calling to tell me that sitting in the snow in her yard were garbage bags bearing the tags..To Amy and Kids, from Santa.

Before my kids awoke, my mother brought the bags down, and I quickly placed the beautifully wrapped gifts under our tree. There were toys and clothes for all the boys, with nice gifts included for me also.

To add to our joy, our benefactor included everything we needed to put a complete Christmas dinner on the table. It was a hectic day but joyous, and to this day I know not who our benefactor was. I am so thankful for the generosity of this person, you cannot begin to imagine.

It was the first Christmas with my nephew. He's the first child born to me and my siblings. A small boy, not even a year old is the center of the world for so many adults.

A Christmas I spent in Miami, Florida one year after Hurricane Andrew. It was very cold for South Florida and my husband, daughter and I went to a place in Homestead Florida called 'Coral Castle' which is a stone henge of sorts made of coral rock. It was December 21st, winter solstice and the moon was full that night too. It was a special time for us.

It was Christmas eve. I was very sick with the flu. I hadn't eaten in days. I called White Castle at 10:30 pm to ask when they closed. They said 11 pm. I drove thru a snow-storm, and got there at 10:45. The doors were locked. The employees just shrugged their shoulders. I was shut out of White Castle on Christmas Eve. There was no room for me at the inn. That was my "White Castle Christmas." Another Christmas Miracle in Detroit.
