The stereotype is NOT true! I have a Jack Russell and she is a year and a half old. Everyone said, "watch out, she's going to be active, hyper, destructive, etc." Well, she isn't that way at all! Yes, she likes to walk, run, chase the ball, which is great. But, most of the day she likes to lay in the sun or on my lap. One thing is that she can jump very high (over fences if they're not high enough), and also she jumps on guests to our home, but we're working on that. She is very smart... very! That is good when training, she learns very fast especially with positive reinforcements. Also she is the opposite of aggressive with other dogs. She loves to play with neighbor dogs, infact, I have "doggie play-dates" for her every once in a while. I've found my little Jack Russell to be the best thing every. Oh yes, also, she NEVER goes potty in the house, unlike the shih-tsu we HAD. Hope this helps!

Have a LOT of energy.
Need to be SOCIALIZED a lot.
Personally, I don't like them but I don't hate them.
My uncle has a little Jack Russell named Johnny. He is around 8 years old and he hasn't been SOCIALIZED properly. He barks a LOT and is a bit aggressive. Humps everything/everyone anywhere.
If you have a well-trained, properly socialized, happy Jack Russell - I think that's great.
Can't say I was introduced to them properly (uncle has had many Jack Russell, Beni (passed away late 04), was also very dominant and aggressive. Always humped things, always barked/yapped, always bit people. I think that turned me off the JRT breed.

I like Jack Russell Terriers, but if you are wanting a calm, sit in your lap all day, doesn't cause problems kind of dog, it is not the one for you.
The link below should give u a lot of info about jack russell terriers.

I think they are cute! But they have way too much energy for me! If you have the time to properly exercize one (5 mile jog a day), then he may be good for you. They are one of the top breeds for high energy and become VERY destructive if their energy needs aren't met. I dog sat a 9 yr old JRT and he wore out my 1 yr old border collie and began shredding my dogs toys and digging up my back yard.

They are a large dog in a small body. Very energetic, stubborn, difficult to train, so they are not for everybody. They are also great escape artists, always wanting to go out of the yard and explore the neighborhood. Very courageous, never afraid of anything.

JRT's are not for everyone. High energy is the big reason. Hard to train is another. They are great dogs, for the right owners. My uncle's is like 13 and still very hyper.

Full of energy. That's the first thing that comes to mind, their endless amount of energy. They need a LOT of exercise.
But when well cared for, they're great little dogs.

I've "met" & hunted/worked w/ LOTZ of em...NOT for me.
NOT "hyper"-***NO DOG IS***!
That's just an excuse from LAZY,irresponsible owners.
But they are strong, active, determined & independant!
Can be GREAT in the field-good noses & will work right up to their quarry but be can too "hard" for their size. Must be taught to be "polite" in a pack;can be dog -aggressive.
If not "stock-broke" EARLY & FIRMLY,they can & will KILL CATS! NOT a fault for me but some folks actually LIKE cats.
