For example, a parent tells a kid to go to their room and they walk out the front door instead.
What can a person do?

It isn't my kid, I'm only 17. It is my cousin, she is my age. She will not listen to anybody and gets into trouble allot. The police has had to bring her home before. She didn't grow up in a neglectful home or anything like that so I don't understand why she is acting like this....

First ask yourself why they arent listening, then do something about rectifying it. Kids usually dont listen when they feel no one listens to them.

Do something strict that the kid doesnt expect, n show them who's the parent at home, like if they go out lock the door n not allow them to come back for a long time, or if teens take away thier most loved item like cell phine or any toy if younger. May parents used to do that, that helped me become more disciplined, however u even need to check if ur become over-bossy and unjustified in ur orders.

NOTHING! jus let em' do whatever they want. If they get arrested and go to jail...let them stay there. Let them go through thier own mistakes...one day they will realize that what they are doing will have an affect on them BIG TIME! Aside form that, a parents can only do so much for their kids. It takes a lot of patience, tough love, and TIME for kids nowdays to be disciplined. Good Luck!

She is screaming for attention. Does she walk to places she goes or does she have her own car and cell phone? If she has these items then they need to be taken away from her and she can have them back when she decides to SERIOUSLY sit down with her parents and talk to them about what's going on inside of her. She needs tough love. Sounds to me like she has never had any discipline in her life. That's what she needs now. She's too old to spank but taking stuff away from her until she talks is the first step. If they are washing her clothes and cleaning her room then they need to stop it. Let her do it. If she doesn't choose to clean her room and clothes then she can wear, and live in filth until she does it herself. It's called being responsible.

hey there LEDZEP BABE~,
there's no simple answer to your question
but there are many things your aunt and uncle can do to change the situation, and there are ways extended family can help...
if you were going to buy your aunt and uncle a Christmas gift, get them a copy of
"Parenting Your Out-of-Control Teenager: 7 Steps to Reestablish Authority and Reclaim Love" by Scott Sells
It sells for about $12, and is available at most book stores as well as online at Amazon.com,
It'll give them some very practical and useful ideas on how to help turn your cousin around, good luck!

My experience with this one is to hit them where they live, each kid had something that they value. For my kids it was in the wallet. Each time they chose to disobey, I would charge them. ex. I tell them to go to their room and they do otherwise I inform them that just cost them $10.00 , if they continue to argue and extre amount would be added on and so on When they want new clothes, cd's or whatever they had to earn it. Sooner or later they connect that there are consequences to every action good, bad or otherwise

Good question. What are we talking about? A 16 year old who has a driver's liscence? Or an 8 year old, barely into 3rd grade?
It really all depends on the situation.

Call the police and have them sent to a juvenile facility..
Send them to a military boarding school...
Collect all their belongings while they are gone and lock them away.
