You can look up the statistics at the National Cancer Institute or the American Cancer Society. They both have down loadable documents describing statistics in detail.

Anyway, more people die from lung cancer than any other type of cancer. Men are slightly ahead of women. However, women are catching up statistically due to more of them smoking. According to 2002 statistics:

"100,099 men and 80,163 women were diagnosed with lung cancer in 2002.*

• 90,121 men and 67,509 women died from lung cancer in 2002.* "

The average age was 50 and older.

This does not mean that children, adolescents, or young adults cannot get lung cancer. They can, but it is rare or it is a secondary malignancy. (My 17 year old had secondary metastatic spots on his lung from abdominal sarcoma).

Lung canser in countless cases is caused by inhailing smoke, and in other words shutting the lung down.
From this anyone can infer that teenagers, men, women, and elder people who smoked could be the majority of this, so it isn't a matter of who it affects the most it's a matter of how they got infected.
