This is the best time. The longer you wait, the harder it becomes.

Sippy cups should be a thing of the past unless in a vehicle by age 2.

Now. Try giving him a small child cup with just a little bit of water in it so he can get used to the whole idea of tipping it up and that there is no lid anymore. Remember to be patient though. Spills are inevitable, and if you start with water then clean up will be a sinch!

My son is 20 months old and has been drinking from a regular cup since he turned a year so it can definatly be done!

Try buying small size cups that your child be confortable holding themself to drink out of. Try buys a design cups that your child likes maybe with their favorite cartoon character on it then they would want to drink from it all the time because thats theirs and theirs alone special cups. But 4 years old your child is oh ya start cups get off sippy cups because your childs teeth could be getting pushed foward and that rot and then they would have to all be pulled out and thats not fun to see or hear your child go through. I friend's daughter went through that and she is 4 years old and she had to have most of he teeth pulled out. just like your child can get that bottle sydrome sucky teeth problem same thing with sippy cups not ment for long term use. It's only to help them learn until they are able to drink from a cup on their own.

you should do it as soon as possible to avoid cavities, only offer your child juice at meal, in a small cup or mug, throw that cup away or remove the lid. If your child doesn't see their favorite cup, they won't miss it because they are too busy playing, you can wean them in a day. You'll be surprised how well your baby will take it.
