I relaxed my hair for at least 10 years and I stopped 4-5 months ago. And I just cut off the rest of my relaxer today. I just got tired of dealing with 2 hair textures and my hair was unhealthy.I believe that when Black people straighten their hair tey are self-hating.

I used to relax my hair religously, but I really jusI love braids and I've always at some point in my life worn a braid hairstyle ever since I was a little girl. The last 5 years I've just kept my in different braid styles because it's a lot easier for me with my crazy work schedule. I just get dressed and go and don't have to worry about styling it and perming it to death and/or trying to get to a hair dress every 2 weeks to get it done. My reason for relaxing it was just because it was just a type of style for me. I don't feel it's really self-hatred we Black people to perm our hair. I mean come on now, you know we love to be done up in different styles and the more flamboynt type appearence. It just depends on the person and what they prefer overall, I mean some could say that you displayed self-hatred by cutting off your hair. But hey you had your own reasons for doing so and did what was best for you so who am I or anyone else to pass judgement on you.

My hair has been relaxed since I was 5. I'm not self-hating I just cant manage my natural hair it too thick. My hair is long and I would have to cut it in order to go natural and Im not to fond of that either. I would spend more money trying to keep my hair braided then I would keeping it touched up. For me relaxed hair is more convienent then natural that the case for most African Americans. I don't need my natural hair to define my ethnicity because my dark chocolate skin will do it all for me and Im proud of that.

I have my hair in braids now but when i take my hair down it will be getting relaxed because it will be easier for me to get it styled . I sometimes do get tired of dealing with my relaxed hair but if you can afford to go to the beauty shop it takes alot off of your shoulders. I don't feel that it is a form of self hate for me because I am proud to be black if I want to have my hair Kinky, straight, or curly its my decision the self hatred idea in the black community came from slave times when black people began to straighten there hair to fit in with their white peers

i relax my hair because i always have. there have been times when ive gotten frustrated and just wanted to start over natural, but i have an abnormally large head and i dont think i could pull it off. i dont think straightening your hair is self hatred. afterall relaxers were at first used to make combing through your hair easier.

So you hated yourself for 10 years and now you don't? Think about what you say, you sound stupid. I'm natural now, wearing twisty locks, and I wore a relaxer for 3 years before that and 2 years before that a natural, and a relaxer for 10 years before that. I love me, I love my people, I love all people. You need to address what you love and why you do the things you do, rather than passing judgement on a whole race based on hair style.

Natural but I have long natural blonde hair. If I cut it short it frizzes because I part African American but I like it frizzy too

while i exchange into youthful, it exchange into easy blonde, now after having toddlers and nearing the age of fifty that's grimy blonde with some patches of gray right here and there. I colour mine to as quickly as I can too and tend to decide for the reddish blonde, that's my widespread : )
