I'm hungry and don't have anything else in the fridge besides a carton of eggs with a sell by date of Oct 12. That's over a month!!! I'm just curious because I put them in a big bowl of cold water and they sank to the bottom, but standing on their points. But not floating. I don't know, I'm really iffy about it though. How long do eggs really last? There's no way they can be good after a month.

I cracked one open and it doesn't smell bad. But I've never smelled an uncooked egg before. It had a little odor, but didn't make me cringe or anything. It wasn't unpleasant. Hmmmm.....

just smell them before you eat them, you'll know if they're bad. also, you can keep eggs several weeks after the date if you will flip the carton once a week. in other words, this week the carton is upright, next week flip it upside down and then then next back upright. my mom told me this years ago and it works. i buy several dozens when they are on sale and keep them this way. just make sure you do this once a week until you've used all the eggs up.

from experience - any longer than two weeks in the fridge is not good, rather not take a chance, although bad eggs normally smell bad...eggs with cracks can make you very sick through poisoning - from dust etc...

hey the best solution to find out weather the eggs are spoilt or r dey still in de condition of usage...
put the following eggs in a vessel containing warm/cold water.
some will settle at the bottom of the jar where as sum will flot.
the floating ones are spoilt and the settled ones are of gud quality.as in 2 say it can be used.
all de best i hope my advice works out!!

you will be ok they last a while and the shelf date is just so the store can rotate product. also if they sink then they are good. if they are bad you will FOR SURE know it once you crack them open. if they dont smell BAD then you are good to go.

I WOULD NOT EAT THEM IF THEY ARE PAST THE EXPIRATION DATE.
I BELIEVE THEY ARE ONLY GOOD FOR FOUR WEEKS. THEY COULD MAKE YOU VERY SICK IF THEY HAVE WENT BAD........ BETTER TO BE SAFE "THEN GET SICK"

SORRY I KNOW IT SUCKS WHEN YOUR HUNGRY. MAKE A QUICK TRIP TO THE STORE
