"A typical continental breakfast consists of "a breadstuff (such as toast, croissants, pastries) and coffee, tea, or other liquid." Furthermore, the continental breakfast is the "antithesis of the hearty English breakfast," in which you sit down to cereal, bacon, eggs, sausage, tomatoes, toast, marmalade, tea, and, most likely, some Alka Seltzer."

A big disappointment! (for Americans anyway!). Depending on which country you're in, it's either coffee, a croissant w/butter and jam, or if it's Austria, coffee, juice (if you're lucky), Semmeln (a type of roll like a Bulkie), with butter and marmelade. When I was In Austria, I asked for scrambled eggs for breakfast in a restaurant and they looked at me like I was nuts! (They regard that as lunch food...I think).

Germans eat much heartier breakfasts, with a wide variety of rolls, cakes and breads, butter, cheese, jams & jellies (Struedel is usually a dessert after dinner).

Milk is available if you ask for it, but watch out in rural areas, it'll probably be WARM (as in, right from the cow...ugh!).

I prefer English breakfast: specifically steak and eggs!

It all depends on how nice the hotel/motel is. Mostly it's donuts, bagels, or croissants, some type of fruit, orange juice, another juice, coffee and tea. It's generally something that doesn't' need to be cooked, though most have toasters there to help you with your bagels.
