Why is it that no matter how many times the question is asked, I want to lose (fill in the blank) pounds, someone gives the correct answer and then a few minutes later someone asks the same question again. Is it because, they don't want to know the answer, that individual is too lazy to read previous answers, our educational system is a complete waste of time, asking the question yet once again satisfies some deeply recessed psychological need? WHO OUT THERE in YAHOO land knows why this question must be asked over and over again, every single day on this forum?

Haha, this question severely entertained me...lol! Like you previously mentioned, I think its a combination of reasons. But I think the main reason is because people are desperate when it comes to losing weight, but they want the "quick and easy" way to do it. Unfortuntely, there is no way of losing weight that is "easy," but people still have a hope that some individual is blessed with some other worldy or divine knowledge of the "secret" of weight loss...perhaps somebody out there in YAHOO land truly does possess this power...But until the coming of the Weight-Loss Messiah, people with weight problems will just have to continue to post their desperate pleas for help..lol

Yes.
I could take pages, hours and volumes to answer this question, but in bullet form, here are the things to ponder:
Losing weight involves hard work, sacrifice.

Much of the hard work (i.e exercises) and sacrifice (not eating foods you like in the quantities you like), people are unwilling to do in the long term, or lack the confidence they will stick to it.

People do not want to hear that you cannot get past the basic fact that you simply need to eat fewer calories (less food) and burn more calories (exercises more)

People are hardwired for denial.

Every fad diet that has ever existed has Been based on getting around that simple fact (ratio of calories eaten vs burned). They are capitalizing on peoples sense of denial.

People want a specific blueprint for weight loss, this cannot be accomplished unless the self discipline to do it is there first.

The pressure to stay thin is imposed on both men and women, by everything, including the media.

People set unrealistic goals, have no idea what they are doing, lack the self discipline to follow through with any thing, and the media is constantly undermining it.

The people who ask are the people who are not serious/disciplined/committed enough to make the necessary sacrifices. they are looking for an easy shortcut. Guess what? there isn't one, and deep down inside, they know it. They just don't want to hear it.

Because the real answer is exercise a lot and eat less food with lower calories - but no one wants to do it the hard way and so people are always looking for a short cut without the work or deprivation and that is really the only thing that works.

that is exactly why I think that when someone asks a question, they get sent to the other same question(s) and theirs not posted!!!
It is truly unbelieveable how many times a day I see that question and of course the ever famous "Am I pregnant"

Other "Neverending Questions" include:

How do I tell if he/she likes me?
How do I tell him/her that I like him/her?

Am I gay? (Or lesbian, or bisexual...)
What makes people gay?
Is being gay a choice?
Don't gays know they're going to hell?
Can gay people become straight?
And a host of questions about gay marriage, gay adoptions, and other variations on the gay vs. religion theme.

There's also one guy who, for a while, has asked every day "Is 22 a young man?" I guess he feels old or something and needs reassured. Or he has short-term memory loss? I dunno.
