We have a nine-month that has responded the word "No" before....but is not really doing it now. Is it too young to even expect her to understand it?

Why is that the people who type the smart aleck answers never have IM or email enabled so that they can get a smart aleck response back from us?

trust me sweetie they never respond to "no" lol
but they do understand it around almost 2 I'd say
but a nine month old in my opinion is too small to really understand what it means she may realize the tone in your voice when you say it is different and sterner and might respond to that more then the actual word............y is everyone being so mean to this women!!!!???she only asking a question...I've seen ridiculously stupid questions that have been answered nicer then the answers you have all answered lighten up!!!

Oh believe me, your child understands when you say "no". Your child just chooses to ignore you. I have three children ages 3,2, and just turned 1....my baby is just now shaking his head at me or pulling his hand back when I say no. They are just defying us. Give your child credit because they are a lot smarter than we think they are. My son used to say momma but stopped doing that too. They still know how but choose not to. Don't worry.

Wellll, do you say it so much she now thinks it is her name?
I am not kidding; maybe you need to baby proof a little more and say no a little less...She understands that she hears something she just cannot know what it means..

DUH. a Nine month old was probably not responding to the word as much as the tone of voice used. A nine month old having nothing to reference from has no idea what the word "no" means. That's like if I threw out a word like floccinaucinihilipilification I doubt you'd know what it means although you'll probably react to it

I'm sure she still understand the word - the question is, whether or not she is choosing to OBEY it. For the moment, it sounds like the answer is "no"! ;-)
