do you know if your son is intolerant to anything I am intolerant to dairy products and wheat (big time) If I eat bread I get agonising pains in stomach try stopping both and see if this works if not call an ambulance and tell them he has collapsed in agony then he will definitely be seen instantly. Good luck to you.

As an Ex Nurse I am horrified that you son is expected to wait for hospital appointment whilst doctor does very little. I am not surprised though I was in agony due to menopause and doctor did nothing until I demanded to see a consultant and got an appointment very quick and my fears were confirmed full blown menopause and treated properly by consultant.
I urge you to go back to his doctor and demand a very quick referral or change doctor or take him straight to casualty when he gets his next lot of bad pain.
I am not going to diagnose as I do not know him however his treatment is shocking and he needs to see a specialist now not next year as soon that will be the case. A gastroenrelologgist someone who specialises in stomache problems is definatly needed and quick.

i can t believe what people think A+E are for...this has been going on for months..neith er its it an accident nor an emergency...if everyone went to a+e for a 2nd opinion the whole system would collapse...speaking as having worked in a+e in the past.

it sounds like the gp has arranged an outpatient appt. he can see his gp again to see if any tests can be arranged whilst he is awaitng his appt ( eg bloods, urine stool culture)

is there any relevant family history...

if the gp is concerned he could expedite the appt..or if that is no help then could go privately . but please dont assume that a casulaty doctor will do much ..the patient is already in the system to be seen as an outpatient and would not benefit from any hospital treatment which cant be gievn at home ie analgesics

he probably has irritable bowel syndrome - or at the worst Crohn's. Is there a history of bowel symptoms in the family. All that hard work and family responsibilities could cause underlying stress. Any severe pain like that needs to be investigated by an ultrasound scan but if its continuous and ongoing; its most likel bowel related.

Have you had him tested for IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome)? It's more common than you might think; certain types of foods will cause stomach cramps and pains. People can be sensitive to all sorts of foods, it's really just a matter of cutting out all the foods that cause it and then reintroducing them into his diet one by one to see if he's affected. Try your local health food store - some of them will do a food sensitivity test for you; charges vary from store to store.

He should go to the A&E department at the hospital and tell them he cant stand the pain any longer. He will be admitted to hospital and get all the tests done straight away.

That is absolutely ridiculous and ive never heard of this happening before.

Wow. Seek out a specialist in gastrointestinal areas. If he is in that much pain then there is a problem. Don't give up until you find a doctor who will investigate the problem until an answer is found.

When he is in considerable pain tell him to go to A&E, at least there they should give him an xray and run a few tests or at the very least give him a note to give to his Gp to run tests. Unfortunately I had to do this, had pains in my hands & wrist, went to the Drs and was given pain killlers and anti-inflammatories, weeks later was still in pain so went to A&E they xrayed and gave me a note for my Gp to run a blood test, it turns out I have Rheumatoid Arthritis!

yes buy- pass the doctor go straight to A.E.department of your hospital where they can do ultrasound on him there and then his doctor is just following there surgery procedure i.e.if its not gone in 7 weeks send him to hospital just go say he cant stand it any longer.
