Many UK companies are employing workers from other EU countries because they say they cannot find suitably skilled staff after trying to recruit from within the country, i use engineering as one example where school leavers are said to be lacking in the basic skills to be considerd for employment,if this is true then what has the government really done for education other than impose un-workable and silly targets for school staff and failed future generations with their control freakery methods which have never worked ( look at the state of the health service ).
I have nothing against employing immigrant labour if they can fill the ever widening skills gap and do the work some of us British refuse to do but why has this happened in the first place when Blair promised such wonderfull things and yet has not really delivered,is he really just a man of empty and meaningless words?

There are a couple of issues here and you have hit one of them on the head.

The knock on effect is that having sourced the workers from overseas there will be no jobs for School leavers at all, so it's onto Uni or the dole. Note the recent policy change announcement to keep Kids in school till 18!

The other is that the domestic birth rate is still falling, I believe in part due to the requirement for a second income in order to afford a mortgage these days.

YEP Blair has failed in everything he's touched like you say look at the NHS & the schools, I'm sorry to say it, but the answer is to stop letting more people into the country. This is what has over streached our services and is likley to continue to do so, again the British people suffer at the hands of a shoddy government. If the government had some balls it would put more of it's efforts into getting British work shy gits of their arses and back into work then companys wouldn't have to employ EU workers. Or would they? afterall their labour is cheaper

The labour goverment has failed this country and the people in it in ALL its policies ,and our children are the ones who will pay the heaviest price, education has always been at the heart of a country's prosperity , and when you lower the standards because others immigrants or not , cannot keep up , you have a recipe for disaster ,

The reason that British companies are not getting British labour they require is low pay for the skill and knowledge required for the job.I work in engineering and the the pay for a standard week for the skill and knowledge also experience required is a national disgrace. The work experience pupils are advised to keep clear of engineering because of this both by teachers and those in engineering.
The teachers for many years now have foisted on them that their role is to produce people able to think and reason for themselves with the attitude of look after number one .

it extremely is a stable question and it extremely is not only experienced workers - there seems to be a ludicrous experience of entitlement usual interior the united kingdom national psyche and there are thousands of thousands of jobs that are carried out, interior the main, by utilising non nationals because of the fact British human beings do no longer choose for to do them. I accept as true with Lulu - as an company, it depresses me that ninety% or extra of the CVs which I see have spelling blunders. the main mandatory record that a individual ever produces and the applicant is only too lazy to apply spell verify.

No. They have failed on all their policies. Only MP's have got anything out of New Labour. Schools have no discipline, education standards are falling, University is open to anyone who can write their name. Sorry but they have got e- for effort and nill for content.

yes, government failed in education BUT there is only a finite amount of money available for education.

My question is: who would have done better: when I look around, the alternatives worry me.

I don't think the Polish are employed for their skills, they will work for a lot less than us fat British.
