Be open, tell your friend about her ex b/f and of your thoughts and ask her to enlighten you on wether you should brush him off or if she thinks you could take him off her hands. You would be surprised she may really not care for him anymore and that would be that, or if she cares deeply for him but is too immature to make it a clean break. In any event, you are not the bad guy here.
If she gets into a snit about it. Tell her Thank you and stay clear of him. If he asks why. Tell him! Its best to be in clean air when meeting someone else's ex.

i Think he like you too. Really ain't a big deal if he popular or not. try talking to him more,maybe then he`ll ask you out. If you friend is really your friend, she`d shut her mouth && be happy that u got a guy now.

i think u should ask your friend if its OK to go out with him first and if she says yes then u should ask him out and i don't think she would mind if u go out with him if she's a real friend.
