The Muslims I have met here in America are not stuck in the middle ages, but the alleged-Muslims who get most of the news coverage in the Middle East may be.

The first verse sent in Islam was "Read", this verse and others like it, show that Islam advices people to be knowledgeable and educated. The reason the middle east is "in the middle ages" is due to the selfish greedy leaders who are supported by the "powerful countries" (for the sake of the oil in the region). And this is why the masses are protesting against the some corrupted leaders.

Personally I think that Islam is perfect and does not need modernizing.Take for example the Quraan which is the same exact Quraan reveled over 1400 years ago.Not revised or amended like some other books I know. However I do agree that us Muslims need to become modernized in the sense that we need to lead and set an example to the rest of humanity on the real Islam that was reveled over 1400 years ago.

Nothing reinforces your point more than your point itself. Problem is that Islam exists in countries that are about 700 years behind the times so the religion simply reflects that. Of course the sexual repression part is rampant with just about all relgions except Hinduism, which reveres sex because it is believed to be a spiritual thing.

Ok, you said no religious dogma, i'll respect that. I just don't know what about islam makes you think that we're not update. If it's the clothes we wear - we prefer keeping simple and modest in clothing and thus preserving true morals. If it's the fact that we pray 5 times a day - it's because every ''Subhan Allah'' that i am ordered to say makes me constantly conscious of God's presence. That way I can not forget who created me, which in any religion is a great thing, u've gotta admit that. If it's the fact that we never bash other religions - well, do i really have to comment that one? If it's the fact that most of muslim women choose to be stay-at-home moms, please just think what would you think of your wife if she decided (BY HER OWN FREE WILL, just like we do) to be one - u'd respect her and think of her mission as the noblest one (by the way, i have a master in literature and my own business, and keep the income to myself - so u can not call me a dummy). I really don't know what islamic issues bother you - if it's radicals who live in tribes among non-educated people ........ it's not their fault that they don't know for any better but to be uncivilised. At least they think they're doing the right thing - you and me know that they don't (i'm referring to domestic violence and imposition of hejab among women, arranged marriages, poligamy, etc). But, then again, if u're referring to terrorists acting in the name of God - they are lost, they are not muslims ...... and i condemn each and every one of them.

In away I do agree with your question, with regards to Islam being stuck in the middle ages. But at the same time may part of Islam is very up-to-date. just that they have a small few fundamentalists who spoil it for the rest.
Mind do you think that Political Correctness in the UK has gone to fare?

It is and that is the main issue..... the west doesnt get it and Islam is inherently unable to evolve... something that made Christianity a force. It really comes down to this....... male dominated society unable to treat a women as an equal. Bottom line...... if they dont want to be discrimated against or have false perceptions...... take care of business at home, stand up, make a difference instead of piggybacking on what western society has built.

All religions are stuck in the middle ages, this is when they really gained power and took over the running of the world, all governments are in thrall to religions of one kind or another apart possibly the chinese and cubans, all other countries have been brainwashed into accepting the lies and fantasies of religious lunatics.

I don't think you can say that Islam is stuck in the middle ages any more than you can say Christianity or any religion is stuck in the middle ages. I do think you can say that there is a broad range of tolerance - or intolerance - in its practitioners. With luck, people of goodwill will prevail in all religions.

Wow, where did you get that information from?
Islam has already modernized; take a good look at the Muslims in the U.S. It's just the extremist Muslims in Saudi Arabia need to wake up and smell the coffee.
