Hard disk based camcorders... To begin with, I am new to the camcorders and do not have much knowledge about them. I am planning to buy a camcorder for the holidays and the idea of my videos being stored directly to a 30GB hard disk sounds great to me. But for some reason, most camcorder buying guides do not really mention these hard disk media camcorders and I am not sure why.

Have these hard disk media camcorders really worth all the money? Any big disadvantages or issue which I should know of before buying one? And lastly, the only two companies I found who make these types of camcorders were Sony and JVC. Do I have more options or do I have to settle for Sony or JVC?

Please Help..

Well the most obvious difference is the hard drive camcorders have no tape, so you can record and rerecord for as long as you like. Another advantage is that is fully digital and you can store the movies in your computer and also you can edit and pretty much do anything you want. I would take the Sony, they have a better reputation and also they were the first ones to come up with this technology.

I have a JVC Everio problematical force camcorder. I have the 20 gig kind which at finished determination can list for 4.5 hours yet there are different fashions (i have considered a 30gig) that is a very good little digital camera, somewhat extra severe priced (I were given very much on mine although) yet you'll by no potential ought to purchase a mini dv or tape, you may both save on your laptop's hd or burn immediately to cd/dvd with the protected software, which in case you recognize a thanks to apply a cd author you'll haven't any complications in besides. purely fault i am going to provide that is battery existence yet i imagine that is with all camcorders, they favor you to purchase their severe priced enhancements, I were given a double cap battery from the internet, a third of the fee JVC needed for a 'genuine' one.

If I was going to buy a camcorder, I would buy a "straight to dvd" one. You put a recordable dvd, and record straight onto it, then it goes straight into your dvd player...nice..

And you get what you pay for, Sony, JVC are good names, so I'd would stick to them. I always look at Sony first.

An example of one is shown in link below..
