If your dogs leg just came off...something is very wrong. If he hit it or someone/something such as a car hit him, it maybe just as the vet said "a nerve being pressed" but I don't think it's by the bruise. If he was hit, it could very well be his hip is dislocated and is pressing on a nerve, being the reason he can't feel it. I would take him to another vet for x-rays to find out the real problem. The more he doesn't use it the more muscle he will lose. The longer his hip is out of place, if that's what is wrong, the harder it will be on your dog to have it put back in place. If it is the pressed nerve thing and he hits it again and the nerve is no longer pressed...HE WILL BE IN SO MUCH PAIN!!! Please don't let that happen. Take good care of your little baby. Good Luck.

It is possible he may have a dislocated hip. If he does, that is quiet serious and he could be in a LOT of pain. Also, you will need to get him to a veterinary hospital to get x-rays and a proper diagnosis.

It is also possible that he could have hip dysplasia. A lot of dog breeds can get that. If he has that, depending on the severity of the dysplasia, it can get fixed with treatment and surgery. If it has advanced to a severe case, there isn't anything you can do about that.

I hope you decide to take him to another vet because obviously, the vet that you took him to didn't see or take notice of a hip that has come out of place.

Hope your dog is OK and gets better soon :)
Good luck.

I am trying to be serious, but when it says that my dogs hind leg CAME OFF that worries me. I assume you do not not mean that his leg just kinda fell off. There is a chance that maybe the dog fell or got hit by a car and his hip is dislocated. He cannot step because it may be out of socket. How old is the dog? He may have something serious called Hip dysplasia and they cannot do much to fix that I am afraid

You need to file a police report asap and press charges. And make your neighbor pay for the vet bills. You wont be able to do that without a police report People like that need to be locked up! And he will likely be charged with failure to maintain control of his animal as well as cruelty to animals. And possibly even will-full destruction/damage of private property. Serves him right. I'm just not sure if you have waited to long already to file a report. I hope your dog gets better soon.

Seriously, what would it feel like if your leg came off. No, it is not possible for there to be no pain unless the dog was paralyzed from a spinal cord injury and unable to feel. You ask if it came off but, describe an injury. Was that just to get us to pay attention. Get another vets opinion.

Dislocated joints are usually very painful. Since your dog is not in pain it is unlikely. Vets usually know what they are talking about. Wait for the three days that your vet suggested and if the dog is still not able to use it's leg then go to either the same vet if you feel that it is a good vet or somewhere else and tell them what first vet said.

It is entirely possible that your dog's hip is dislocated, have your vet take an x-ray to be sure... if you aren't getting the attention that you feel you deserve, don't hesitate to get a second opinion.

Listen to your vet..he/she is the expert, and has seen your dog..and would know if it is out of socket..
