These vaccines have to be spaces at precise intervals or you do need to start all over. Sorry about that. I'm sure you were told when to bring your cat back for the second round when the first was given. Unfortunately, you are going to have to go through with it and pay attention to the schedule your vet prescribes, or your baby will be open to all sorts of horrible diseases.

To detail...immunizations provide the body with antibodies to disease. In some cases, a sufficient dose to produce permanent immunization would cause a fatal reaction.

A kitten should have it's distemper vacciantions at 8 weeks and at 12 weeks of age. If it didn't have it at 8 weeks and got the first one at 10 weeks then it needs to have the second vacciantion at 14 weeks.

A kitten or an unvaccinated adult cat do their boosters (it should be only a series of 2 vacciantions do not be conned into getting a series of 3 for a cat/kitten it isn't necassary). Once a kitten/cat has received their initial series they will need a booster in 1 year from the date of the last vacciantion...if they are indoor only then the only vacciantion they need after that is rabies given per state law..if outdoor cats then they should receive their distemper vacciantion every 2-3 years and possibly FeLv as well. Don't bother with FIP vaccinations as they are pretty worthless.
AVMA and the AAHA all have changed their protocol as have all 27 vet schools on yearly vacciantions for both dogs and cats. It is no longer considered necassary to vaccinate yearly and several vacciantions are considered not needed at all unless in very high risk areas.

Who are "they", the Vet's office?" Just visited my Vet yesterday to get boosters for my kitty who had shots 3 weeks prior. She is a 4 year old stray cat and had all necessary shots (Leukemia virus, Panleukopenia, Calicivirus,Rhinotracheitis, Pneumonitis, and Rabies. Distemper is for Canines only. Please do not administer the shots you get at a feed store. This may be cheaper, but I leave my pet's care to the professionals.:) Good luck!

New vaccine guidelines have been evolving over the past few years. Not all vets are up to date with the latest info. Check out the UC Davis Veterinary school guidelines for cats and dogs. According to them your cat does not need another booster. Cats and dogs have been over vaccinated for years because the drug companies are to concerned with profit to do the science.

Good for ju4210. Your cat is now past the danger period for panleukopenia and doesn't need any more vaccination.

Go to www.littlebigcat.com and read Dr. Jean Hovfe's article, titled "Vaccination". It is at the end of the sixty articles there. Dr. Hovfe also has updates on vaccines in her newsletters which you can find in the archives.
