Try oil of clove on a Q-Tip and rub the area. I had a tooth pulled on Saturday and started Sunday with a strange smell, taste and pain. Went into the surgeon today and he said he thinks it's dry socket. He put a packing up in the socket with the oil of clove and BOY what a difference!!! Give it a try and call the doc who extracted your tooth!
Good Luck!!!!

If the pain is really so bad and I think it must be if you are asking for advice here, I suggest that you go into emergency right away. If it's infected and not treated right away you could really get very sick and it's not worth waiting until tomorrow to see your dentist so please go to emergency now before it does get infected if it already isn't.
Best of luck and if you take care of it now you can still enjoy your Thanksgiving day without pain or infection either.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving day without pain or infection either.

I am sorry for you dog. You should try Wet food. that might help.(like canned dog food) If you can afford a vet, then you should NOT have a pet. That is like people having kids when they can't afford to take care of them. I hope you know that it is considered animal cruelty when you dont care for you dog when it is sick or injured. You can get in a lot of trouble if someone reported you. You NEED to take the dog to the vet. A lot of vets will work out payment plans with you. DO NOT removed the tooth yourself, Im sure you aren't a licensed professional, and if you removed the tooth you could actually do further damage to your dog. If you can't take care of your animal, dont get one. You need to consider surrendering it to someone who does care. Call your vet and tell them of the problem, tell them that you need to set up a payment plan.

If the painkillers are PRESCRIPTION and not working, you should go to the emergency room.
If you are using over-the-counter painkillers like ibuprofen (Motrin), you can take 800 milligrams--or 4 tablets--every 5 hours.
Not that I advocate alcohol abuse, but liquor is a really good painkiller....
Good luck!

If it is not swollen and if it does not feel hot then it is likely to be dry socket; look here:
