I have a 3.0 megapixel camera and it takes good pictures. The higher the megapixel the clearer and sharper the picture. The good ones are like 5,6, or 7. Of course, like most things. the more megapixels the higher the price.

However, if you catch a sale, you can get some 6 or 7 meagpixels for just over $100.

Pixels - How many are enough?

If you always plan to compose your pictures perfectly, you don't need a whole lot of pixels. 3 MP is fine for most shooting and you will get acceptable enlargements if you enlarge the full image. If you want to allow for cropping, which means enlarging only a portion of your image, the more pixels the better.

Imagine taking a scenic view and then noticing that the middle 20% of the photo would make an even better picture. Suppose you take a picture of a whole group of people and Aunt Clara really, really looks great in the picture, but everyone else looks lousy. If you have the pixels to work with, you can still make a decent print of Aunt Clara that she would be happy to have.

If you buy a 6-to-10 MP camera and don't want to TAKE large photos, you can always set the camera to a lower file size. You can never go the other direction, though. Unless the cost is a major issue, buy the camera with more pixels. You will never be sorry that you did, but you might one day be sorry that you didn't.

That's decent. The higher ones I've heard of are like 7-8 megapixel. To tell the truth I really can't tell the difference.

3 Megapixels is just a starting point, ok for casual snapshots as was mentioned. 5 or 6 is more like it.

3.0 is pretty low I would go for like a 4 or 5 like the other dude said, that is if you want decent pictures especially when printing them you don't want to see a bunch of fuzziness ergo the higher the number of pixels the better the quality of the photo

It's fine, you won't be able to take poster sized pictures though. 3 megapixel should be pretty cheap. 3 megapixel should be fine for just taking snapshots of friends and junk.

it all depends on your purpose

for basic sharing of photos via email etc 1.3MP is more than enough
if u r going to print it greater tahn A4 size etc go for 4MP or greater.
but human eye cannot recognise the difference between 6MP and 7MP this is a scientifically proven fact.
so unless u r a professional photographer dont go for >6MP.

for buying a camera make sure it has

1.red eye reduction
2.macro mode
3.good range of focal length
4.more optical zoom (minimum 3X)
these features fitted in a 3MP camera will do tooo good..
but wrt future concerns and upgradation required you can go for 4,5 or 6MP depending upon ur choice

BUt check out for the 4 points i have mentioned. Those are more important.

have i made my answers clear to u?

You could get that digital camera for very cheap. They have really high end cameras now. My camera is 7.1 mega pixels. It cost around $300. Matters what you want.
