It can impair your short term memory and after a long time, you may find you're just a tad slower. However, this is all contingent upon what it is you're using to get high.

not weed, it doesnt have any harmful negative effects at all when eating it (like in a brownie or something else where the thc can dissolve out of the plant into fat), and the only harmful effects when smoking may be on the lungs but its probably not as bad as people assume.
now any other drug can cause damage, especially stimulants like blow and tweak (cocaine and meth) which can cause heart troubles, stroke, kidney troubles, liver damage, brain damage (mild cognitive impairment at first, but can progress to be very severe if someone chronically smoked meth for example for years), rhabdomylisis which is muscle degeneration and the cause of some kidney troubles, etc
drugs like angel dust (pcp/phencyclidine) can cause brain damage, particularly in the hippocampus as this drug is uniquely toxic to this area, this is the learning and emotional center.
while other drugs like opium and heroin (diacetylmorphine) (which medically speaking are in a class of drugs called opiates that are the only true narcotics) are very safe in the body, and only have addiction potential, and of course contamination issues where heroin is concerned.
then you have drugs like acid and shrooms (LSD and psilocybin mushrooms) that dont have any real negative long term physical effects, but can cause mental problems - especially in people that are susceptible to them, and it can worsen people who already have them.
then benzos (valium, xanax, ativan, etc)...well there is evidence of brain damage from chronic usage but it hasnt been verified, withdrawals are known to kill people, and they are highly addicting.
thats a cursory overview, each drug has its own sets of risks, myths surrounding it, benefits, etc
erowid.org is a good website for all around drug information.

Yes surely. The risk is always on the liver and heart as when you get high the chances of your blood pressure going high is great meaning your heart need to work more. Secondly your liver works over time to filter out toxins generated by the alcohol consumed.

If you talking about drugs, the question should have been ..how many brain cells am I killing today or, how much damage to my organs have I done today. I won't go on. If your doing drugs, your not listening anyway or your to stoned to understand.
If not don't do them, don't be stupid.

it depends what you are trying to get high off of
any foreign substance you introduce into your body is not good for it, as a rule of thumb
