That's very common in children. I know it worries you but it's just a part of childhood. Make sure he gets plenty of liquids.

I have 5 grown children - one thing I learned as a mom is that YOU know your children better than anyone! Listen to your instincts - if you believe that there is something more going on here than just a virus, call you pediatrician back and let him know that you want him to look at the child again. If you get no satisfaction, call another pediatrician.

Many doc's give you the impression that they believe that you are being an over-reacting mom who is just worried about their child and because of that you can't think objectively about their illness - yes you can!

If you feel there is more going on, you feel that your child is not getting any better as a few days pass, you need to fight for that child. Always remember the doctor is providing a service - just like any other service provider. They are not, contrary to some of their beliefs) God.

In the course of the 30 years that I raised my children, there were many times when I was right and the doc was wrong.

All that said, I also agree that it is good not to give antibiotics for every sneeze and cough. When it comes to antibiotics less is more.

Definitely make sure your child drinks plenty of fluids - water and clear fruit juices are good choices. Another good thing for a child with a fever is Popsicles - they provide fluid and help to cool the child down (and the kids love 'em).

God bless.

As there is no focus of infection, the doctor is right about not starting an antibiotic. Give him small, frequent feeds. Pediasure is good for him. Give him paracetamol when the temperature is 100 degrees F. or more. It can be repeated after 4 hours, if needed. Give more fluids.
