I'm getting engaged in the summer and I need creative ideas about programs or shows to be in the program. I would like it to be oriental but with some American & European additions.

yes, I'm not engaged yet. I only need ideas to compare.
By the way, the guests would be about 150.

I just want ideas.. I'm Egyptian and we hold that kind of big parties for engagement .. so any ideas for a big party? not particularly engagement?

obviously it's a cultural difference to plan engagement party before actually becoming engaged...but i'm not going to judge. hey, u and ur fiancee (and family?) probably have discussed this decision and want to celebrate it publicly...

anyway, w/ that being said, here's some suggestions....
==> decor: gold w/ red accents; silk damask tablecloths w/ candle as centerpiece; solid-colored napkin rings; fine chinaware; candles, candles, candles for an elegant romantic ambience.
==> programs/shows: have u/fiancee traveled? spotlight the destinations by making a slideshow; spotlight/celebrate your own and ur fiancee's heritage as well...this also a way to involve older members of both families.
==> to add european touch: include an amuse bouche/hors d'oeuvre before the meal/main course. (e.g. antipasto, apertif)

incorporate asian/american flavor in the menu w/ each course...
1st: pasta dish; 2nd: meat, like fish; 3rd: salad; 4th: dessert; 5th: cheese or something light like fruit coffee/tea; 6th: coffee, tea, or liqueurs, maybe irish coffee?

hope this helps...congratulations!

You are getting engaged in the summer (meaning you aren't engaged yet) and you're planning the party now?? I definitely haven't heard anything like that before. Usually an engagement party isn't anything large, like a wedding reception. Maybe a nice dinner with close friends and the family who can make it...nothing extreme. Maybe you want an oriental themed reception??

All I can think of it might be best to be engaged before planning anything, and I've always thought that engagement parties were for close friends and family not 150 people, that's what the wedding is for. If you're gonna invite that many people to just the party who many are you going to invite to the wedding?

I am sorry you probably won't like this answer but... I am not sure why you would all of this for an engagement party. They are usually very small and intimate or a bbq. Nothing extravagent! Programs and a theme are not usually used. And you aren't engaged yet.
