It sounds as though you want to know what make and model your car is. You probably already know this - it would be the manufacturer (like Ford, Toyota, etc.), and the type of car - like a Mustang or a Camry; you'd also need to know the year it was produced if you're going to purchase a repair manual. I suggest taking it to a dealer or mechanic if you don't know those things. Most car repair manuals cover a range of years for a particular make and model. The registration of the car (when you paid for tax, license plates, etc.) won't matter.

If your talking about an owners manual then I agree it's a crappy present. If your talking about a Haynes manual that shows you how to do your own repairs then that's an awesome present. You just need to tell parts person the yr make and model and you can get the manual you need. If it's an owners manual then go to the dealer.

If the number plate on the car is private then look at the registration certificate and it will say date of first registration - thats the year of the year of the car.

Is this a serious question? There is a white plate on the front of the car (the direction that the seats face) and a yellow one at the back of the car. There are a series of numbers and letters on it. These are your "registration" details.
