In Florida there isn't a set age. I asked a police officer this same question recently and was told that as long as the child knows not to answer the door to a stranger and requires the police to show a badge before they open the door, then they are considered old enough to stay alone at home. I had asked because my neighbor had left her 12 year old daughter at home to watch her 5 younger brother who range in age from 8 to 18 months. He said it was legal.

Depends on your level of maturity. I have a granson who is 7 years old - I believe he could stay home by himself without any problem - if something happened, he would know what to do and how to react. Not that his parents would leave him alone but if there were an emergency, I believe this boy could take care of things - he has that high of a level of maturity. His parents practice good parenting.

I also have a 15 year old grandson, that I wonder whether he could handle himself if he were alone and something untoward occurred.

Both boys are normal children. The parenting makes all the difference.

It varies from place to place but I suggest 13 all alone unless with a babysitter which you should be 4 years of age to stay with a 18 or younger babysitter.

For a fact in Michigan it's 12 years old if mature, not baby-sitting though. My grand son went through a Baby-sitting seminar through the Bad Axe High school with the Welfare teaching, now he can baby-sit four years old and more by himself. I don't know for how long, during the day I mean. He's 14 years old.

i think it depends on how well your parents/guardians trust you. I started staying home alone in around 5th grade, because my parents trusted me.
