try scrubbing t hewalls and then using a fire sealent. it is like a primer. go to your local paint shop and ask them, im sure they will know what i am talking about and help you find it. our bathroom caught on fire and we used this and it worked. you cant even tell it was burned and smoke damaged. no fire smell in damp weather either. hope this works as well for you. good luck my friend....alot of work. hagd

You should wash the walls down with warm water and a good soap and allow to thoroughly dry. Then you need to use a good primer paint and may need to apply two coats before painting with the color of your choice. These steps will keep the soot from bleeding through your paint and ruining you finish.

Hi Debbie , I work in the restoration field and we do alot of fire restoration. First you need to wash as much as the soot off as you can. General Paint makes a real good product called smoke seal2 , It is a laquer based paint and that is what is required to paint over soot stains.
good luck :) debbie pedersen

You need to scrub the soot off the walls with sugar soap ...let it dry well and then repaint. Soot is greasy and paint wont cover it.
