Buy some fresh green beans at the market. Boil salted water and add the beans. Cook until they are tender enough for you. These are great with just butter, salt and pepper. But if you want to do something else try one of these suggestions: Butter and a splash of lemon juice Lightly brown chopped onions or mushrooms in butter and then add the beans and toss to coat with the butter and onions Do the above but use slivered almonds or pecans Olive oil and lemon juice Cut a small piece of ham into thin strips and saute for a few minutes then add beans and warm up. The wonderful thing about fresh vegetables is that they are low calorie and taste so much nicer than canned. Frozen are a good choice if the vegetables aren't in season.

If you are buying them out of a can or fresh, you can....Cut the ends off of an onion and cut it in half, put the onion and the green beans into a pot add enough water to cover the beans, then about a tsp of pepper and seasoning salt, let boil for about an hour.

In a pan saute a onion, clove of garlic, in olive oil and a few slices of bacon, (you can even use salami instead of bacon, when all of that is well browned, toss in some freshly steamed green beans.

My grandmother fixed them this way and I love them.
If using fresh beans you need to steam them until just tender, if using frozen beans, let them thaw.
Crisp and crumble 2 strips of bacon.
Put 2 Tablespoons of bacon grease in sauce pan, add 1
Tblsp. vinegar. Add beans, and bacon crumbles, heat through, stirring to mix with sauce. Salt and pepper to taste. Serve.

I prefer the simplest way. Steam or boil them, stir in a pad of butter till it melts, salt and cracked pepper. Drain and serve.
